Choosing a Hairbrush

We all want our hair to look and feel great. At brushexpress.com we are committed to your hair looking great. Nature determines the texture of our hair, its natural elasticity and growth rate. All the other qualities of our hair and how our hair looks depend largely on how we brush our hair and how often we brush our hair using a good hairbrush.

The first step in selecting the right hairbrush is in identifying your hair type as this will determine the best brush for you. Use our hair brush selector designed by our expert hair stylists to help you choose the brush most suited to your hair type.

Choose from the following hair types, textures and volumes.

Fine to Thick

Fine hair refers to the texture or size of the individual hair strand, and people often complain that their hair is limp or lacks body, which makes holding a hairstyle virtually impossible, especially if there is any humidity. On a positive note fine hair can also be smooth and shiny despite still being annoyingly unmanageable!

Thick hair can be double the size of a fine hair strand yet still as tricky as fine hair for styling. Blow drying itself can also take twice as long so it is worth drying 80% of the moisture out of the hair before starting to use your hair brush to style.

Thin to Full Bodied

Thin hair has to do with the actual number of hairs on your scalp, the fewer hairs you have, and the thinner your hair is. Whilst receding hair is hair that is in the process of becoming sparser due to a variety of reasons, including heredity and age, trauma, and hormonal changes.

Full bodied hair can be double the size of a fine hair strand yet still as tricky as fine hair for styling. Blow drying itself can also take twice as long so it is worth drying 80% of the moisture out of the hair before starting to use your hair brush to style.

Straight to Curly

The texture of straight hair generally lacks volume, and is very difficult to curl. Straight hair requires frequent brushing because it is very prone to getting knotty. Straight hair is usually very oily.

Curly hair is usually full in volume, thick and usually has a lot of body. Very often curly hair has a tendency to be very frizzy. Curly hair damages very easily and requires fragile care. Curly hair is very prone to tangles. Curly hair includes hair textures that have very small undefined curls and hair that has very tight curls.

Dry to Oily

Dry hair lacks much needed moisture and can be a sign of damage. Dry hair tends to be dull and frizzy. Dry hair is very fragile. It is important to use the proper product that won’t cause any further damage.

Oily hair is very moist. Moisture is needed to protect hair, but when there is too much moisture build up in the hair it becomes oily. Gentle frequent washing can be very helpful.

The right size hair brush depends largely on the size of your hand - you will want the brush to be held comfortably in your hand while you brush or style your hair. In general, the longer the hair the bigger the brush required.
